CCTV we forget

"the last train with service on the jubilee line leaves in nine minutes. please don't run on the escalators," the voice commands, as my fellow home-headers and i screech around corners, and foot-clang on metal. again the voice rings out "the last train with service on the jubilee line leaves in nine minutes. don't run on the escalators."

"don't?" automated messages use contractions?

and it hits me: this is not computer-generated, variegated techno-company just so you know "someone's" around late at night. they can see us. this isn't a one time message that will change into a "please don't leave your belongings unattended and mind the gap" sort of thing. they're watching, and they'll continue to scold until we stop.

i didn't think it would feel as creepy as it did.
